In Argentina, you negotiate with the knife UNDER the table; in Venezuela with the knife ON the table. Many colleagues at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (respectable historians!!) used to go out at night (for drinks and so) with guns stuck behind their belts. Perhaps that is another reason why the US has not invaded the country just yet
