Short-sightedness to become the global norm of every-day life

Commercial advertising highly exaggerates the abilities of eye-healing medications

Up to 100 percent of the Russian population suffers from refraction disorders, i.e. near and long sight of various degrees. The statistics was exposed by the director of the Eye Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Avetisov. “When it goes about the percentage of refraction disorders, some specialists estimate it at 30 percent, others give 70 percent. I believe that virtually every Russian individual experiences such problems. Each and everyone of us suffers from eyesight problems at this or that period of life,” the doctor said.

Sergei Avetisov stressed out that near or farsightedness can be corrected nowadays. It is up to ophthalmologists to decide, which method of treatment an individual should use: whether it should be glasses, contact lenses, or eye surgery.

Sergei Avetisov pointed out the problem of biologically active additives that people may often use in an attempt to improve their eyesight. Such additives produce a slight positive effect indeed, the specialist said, although commercial advertising misleads consumers, exaggerating the healing effect to the maximum. Russian specialists conducted a profound research to study such medicines, particularly the medication, which supposedly assists in the resolution of cataract. The meticulous analysis proved that up-to-date medical methods can only slow down the development of cataract, but it is impossible to remove it from the eye.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a briefing in Beijing that the question about the shipment of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Syria had not been resolved yet. However, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said that S-300 missile systems had been delivered to Syria last month
