Friday is considered the most tragic day for Christians all over the world. On this day (Good Friday) Church keeps the anniversary of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
To commemorate this event, Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow) will perform the ritual of bearing-out the Shroud of Christ, which depicts the Son of God on a deathbed. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexii II will carry out the Shroud from the altar and place it in the middle of the Church of Jesus the Savior, reports ITAR-TASS.
Orthodox believers cherish the day the most; they refrain from food until the Shroud is being carried out from the altar. Parties and daily household labor were all strictly prohibited in ancient times in Russia, on Good Friday.
A special burial ritual will take place later this evening. During the ritual, the Shroud will be carried around the Church; afterwards, it will be placed in the middle of the Church until the eve of Holy Saturday.
