Russia launches the first Bible SMS-school

A new public Bible SMS-school has opened in the department of youth in Voronezhsko-Borisoglebskaya Diocese.

Priest Oleg Shamaev told “Interfax” that the Diocese was the first one in Russia to enable such interaction with the Church by means of mobile phones.

“The Bible SMS-school is a newly developed project of educating youth,” stated the priest. “We would like to help to cultivate faith in today's young generation. First of all however, it is important to provide them with enough Christian knowledge.”

Voronezh students who have access to mobile phones can simply forward a message to the Diocese asking to be connected to the free delivery of teaching materials. Then, they will weekly receive a message with a text of the Old Testament for instance along with assigned homework.
