In a not so distant future, Russian authorities plan to begin building the first underwater parking lot in the Russia's capital.
According to head of the architect's bureau of Moscow's central administrative district Evgeny Lubimov, the parking lot is going to be situated underneath the channel, somewhere between the Church of Jesus the Savior and the Tretyakov art gallery.
Lubimov states that “this parking lot is of tremendous importance for the major project entitled “Golden Island”. … “A civilized parking lot will enable us to attract more people,” considers he.
Construction of the parking lot has been designed in accordance with a program of garage construction within the central district of Moscow. According to the program, additional 30 000 parking spaces are expected to be build by 2008. As a result, the city's center could accommodate more than 148 000 cars simultaneously.
