No country would dare to launch an attack on Iranian territory due to the Persian country's high defense capacity, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Major General, Hussein Saadi Hassani said Monday.

"During the eight years of Holy Defense (Iraqi imposed war on Iran between 1980 and 1988), the enemies saw the great defensive capabilities of Iran.  They now also consider the Persian country's new military achievements and fear the consequences of a possible aggression against Iran," said Saadi.

The statements of the senior Iranian commander occurred within the last day of the military exercise "Payambar-e Azam-8" (Great Prophet 8), held since Saturday in Kerman province, in southeastern Iran.

At the same time, Commander Amy Derrick-Frost of the Bahrain-based U.S. 5th Fleet said earlier in the day that the U.S. Navy deployed a second aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf amid rising tensions with Iran over its nuclear program.

The deployment of the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise along the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group marks only the fourth time in the past decade that the Navy has had two aircraft carriers operating at the same time in the region the informant said.

In another part of his speech, Saadi praised the attitude of the forces involved in these military exercises.  In his view, they were carried out successfully.

Iran, despite sanctions by the U.S. and its allies, in recent years has made many advances in the field of defense and self-reliance in military hardware and defense systems.

However, the Persian authorities have repeatedly stated that the country's military power is focused on defense and deterrence and poses no threat to other nations.

These announcements  come less than a week before world superpowers are set to open negotiations in Istanbul with the Islamic Republic over its contentious nuclear program.
