Iraqi Army Breaks through Basra Blockade - 27 March, 2003

The Iraqi army, with the help of the local militia and the police, has managed to break through the Anglo-American blockade of Basra, the second largest city in Iraq, which was surrounded by coalition forces for the last four days.

As a Rosbalt correspondent reports, the Iraqis used T-52 tanks to destroy the front lines of the US marines and then launched a counterattack. This information is confirmed by Iraqi news agency IRNA.

There has been no comment from the Pentagon.
