A strange hostage crisis occurred in the Moscow metro on February 23rd, 2005. A group of young men between 15 and 20 years of age got in a train at the Vernadsky Avenue metro station. When the doors closed and the train started, the young men started ripping commercial stickers off the car's walls and sticking them back on the doors of the car. When one of female passengers tried to remove the stickers, which blocked the sliding doors, the aggressive young men told her to sit down and stay still, the Echo of Moscow radio station reports. The stickers on the doors did not let them open as the train was making further stops at five stations on the route. One of the doors eventually opened itself at one of the stops, and the passengers could finally get off. It is still not known why the teenagers decided to act so.
