CIA files: A bunch of terrorists

Murder, attempted murder, sabotage, terrorism, subversion, misinformation, infiltration, indoctrination, arson, poisoning...a Pandora's box of sickening and disgusting buzzwords describing the CIA, after an examination of declassified documents. In short, the keywords describing a terrorist organization.

Altamiro Borges*, in his appraisal of the declassified documents released by the CIA, begins with a quotation from William Colby, former Director of the CIA: "The CIA has the legitimate right to infiltrate into the foreign press. It has the mission to influence, through the media, political events in other countries".

41806.jpegThe eleven thousand pages declassified refer to the 1950s - 1970s. Instead of reading like a list of noble, patriotic deeds aiming to protect the security of the United States of America, the notion arises that the CIA is build on a basis of skulduggery and terrorism, murder and attempted murder, the worst type of criminal organization in the history of our planet.

As everyone knows, the documents confirm the presence of US activity in Fascist Latin America, they confirm the hand of Washington in the repressive dictatorial regime in Brazil, they confirm the attempts by the CIA to murder Fidel Castro, providing 150.000 USD and six capsules of lethal poison for this act of terror.

The rest reads like a horror movie. Confirmation of the attempts to destabilise Salvador Allende's Chile, arms trafficking, sabotage, overthrowing nationalist governments and destroying movements which fought against Washington's imperialism through terrorist activities.

Kennedy, the Democrat? Or Kennedy, the Rat?

President Kennedy, once and for all, is exposed as being a bedfellow for Fascist dictatorships. Yet the files do not tell all - large parts are blacked out. Altamiro Borges points out that the juicier parts relating to torture have been censored, as have references to the murder of over a million patriots in Indonesia in 1965.

Yet what exactly has changed? Even today anti-war groups are targeted (Talon Program), visitors to libraries are classified through their log-in cards, the Internet is trawled, phones and tapped. Acts of cyber terrorism are committed. People are threatened. People disappear.

And just as in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s when the CIA was using the media to shape public information through lies, today the "bought" Press sells a cosy little package of stories and fairy tales creating an antithesis through the manipulation of fear, creating a "them" to justify the "us".

The Iraq war showed us that the lies, blackmail, cajoling and bullying never ended, it showed us that the USA still uses terrorism and torture as its Modus Operandi, it shows is that whatever Washington's hyperbole, the basic truth of the matter is that it does not practise what it preaches. And never has done.

And after reading these sickening documents, we see that the Central Intelligence Agency is no more or less than an organization based upon decades of terrorist activities. Who is Washington, therefore, to lead any war on terror, when the first thing it has done and still does, is perpetrate the same evil acts?
