Two border guards wounded on Friday by their fellow soldier remain in critical condition - 30 November, 2002

Two of six Russian border guards wounded by their fellow soldier on Friday remain in critical condition. The incident occurred at the border post near the border between Karachai-Circassian republic and Georgia. According to the Karachai-Circassian Health Ministry, local physicians are trying to save the lives of two soldiers who can't be transported to other places. The other four were sent by a helicopter to a bigger medical facility in Kislovodsk, a city in the neighboring Stavropol region of Russia.

Friday night, a Russian border guard private Denis Solovyov suddenly opened automatic fire at his fellow soldiers who were asleep in the tent he was in.

Four soldiers died on site and one more died later in a hospital from sustained wounds. The criminal was immediately detained. The investigation of possible causes of this bloody incident is underway.
