Five explosions in Turkey spread panic among tourists

A series of five explosions took place in Turkey yesterday. Three explosions shocked one of the most popular Turkish resorts, Marmaris, another one sounded in Istanbul and the last one killed four tourists in Turkey’s major resort city, Antalya.

The most powerful bomb exploded underneath a seat in a minibus that was driving along the central street of Marmaris. Another explosion ripped through the European part of Turkish capital, Istanbul, later in the evening. Twenty-seven people, including ten British tourists, were injured as a result of the attacks. Four of the injured Britons are in severe condition, officials of the British Foreign Office said.

A Kurdish rebel group, called the Kurdistan Liberation Hawks (TAK), claimed responsibility for the earlier attacks, promising: "Nothing in Turkey will be as it was before." Yesterday's blast ripped the facade off at least one building and several shops in the centre of Antalya and triggered a huge fire that incinerated the bodies of two people who were apparently killed in the explosion. A third person died in hospital. Medics rushed to treat three people lying on the pavement off the main street. One young man carried a woman in his arms. Blood could be seen dripping from her feet, Scotsman reports.

Militants of the above-mentioned terrorist group have already urged all tourists not to visit Turkey.

Russian tourists started cancelling their plans on visiting Turkey after yesterday’s explosions in Marmaris, Istanbul and Antalya. No one booked any tours to Marmaris yesterday after news agencies reported the explosions in the town. When bombs exploded in Istanbul and Antalya, people started cancelling their vacation plans for Turkey.
