On Wednesday early in the morning immigration officials conducted a raid upon 5 Pilgrim's Pride Corp chicken plants and arrested illegal workers suspected of identity theft.
No other details are available for now, but Pilgrim's Pride Corp promised to comment the situation a bit later.
It’s still unclear whether there will be any criminal charges filed against the largest chicken producer in the United States, but the company is said to cooperate with immigration officials and participate in their program.
The raid took place at the Batesville, Arkansas; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Live Oak, Florida; Moorefield, West Virginia; and Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
The corporation has about 56,000 employees conducts major operations in Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Mexico and Puerto Rico, with other facilities in Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Mississippi and Utah. They process approximately 44 million birds per week resulting in almost 9 billion pounds of product per year, as well as 528 million table eggs.
