Because of the debts of Independent Shipping, five cargo ships have been docked at the port in the south of the UK for about two weeks. As noted by European media, about 40 sailors are forced to live on board their vessels. The crews are composed mainly of the citizens of Russia and Ukraine.
The sailors have not seen any wages for several months already, and they are unable to return home. The men do not have enough funds to buy food. A UK charity organization provides assistance to the seamen. The owner of the shipping company, Stephen Dudman, promised to deal with the debts of the company during the shortest time possible.
