Brief battles were fought in the Vedeno district of Chechnya

Within the past twenty-four hours brief battles were fought in the Vedeno district of Chechnya.

As the RIA Novosti correspondent was told in the Vedeno press centre of the Russian Interior Ministry in the North Caucasus, in conducting a special operation, policemen and servicemen of the Interior Ministry Troops spotted a bandit group between the villages of Elistanzhi and Eshilkhatoi. In the skirmish that followed two militants were killed. There are no victims among the servicemen and policemen.

In the same district, in the vicinity of the village of Ersenoi, the police task force and the Interior Ministry Troops came across another group of bandits. As was pointed out by the press centre, during this battle the Russian servicemen called for artillery fire. After the battle, in the place of the fight three bodies of militants, a radio station, stretchers and bandages were found. There were no victims among the participants in the special operation.

According to the data of the regional operational headquarters for controlling the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, within the past twenty-four hours six special operations have been carried out in Chechnya.

They were conducted in the Vedeno, Nozhai-Yurt, Shali and Urus-Martan districts of the republic. As a result, five militants were killed and fifteen detained on suspicion of complicity in illegal armed units. At the present time they are being questioned. Apart from that, two sub-machine guns, seven grenade launchers, 46 grenades and about 9,000 cartridges were found and confiscated.
