January killing at Belfast bar: two men are facing charges

Two men are facing charges in connection to a January attack that left a 33-year-old man dead in a crowded Belfast bar.

One of the men, age 49, is charged with killing Robert McCartney. The other man, age 36, is charged with the attempted murder of Brendan Devine, a friend of McCartney's, in the same incident, according to the &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/society/2000/10/30/558.html ' target=_blank>Northern Ireland Police press office.

Neither suspect's name was released.

The two are set to appear Saturday morning at 10 a.m. (0900 GMT) time in Laganside Magistrates Court, reports CNN News.

According to the Guardians Unlimited, McCartney's sisters - who have taken their campaign to the White House and the European Parliament - said they were stunned by the news - but emphasized that their mission for justice still had a long way to go.

``We hope it will lead to further arrests, because there were more than two people involved. We still have a long way to go in terms of a trial and convictions,'' said Catherine McCartney. ``We are happy this has happened, but we know it is by no means over.''
