At Least 23 People Were Killed in Bus Crash in South Africa

At least 23 people have died after a bus headed to Cape Town overturned on a highway, South African official says.

Department of Community Safety spokesman Xenophone Wentzel told the South African Press Association that four children were among the victims.

The driver of the bus was seriously injured but survived the early Wednesday crash, The Associated Press informs.

Captain Div de Villiers said police were investigating a case of culpable homicide against the driver, Sapa reported.

Eastern Cape traffic officials said the bus had been suspended in Queenstown, and they were looking into why it was declared unroadworthy.

"We'll only be able to fully conclude our investigation once we receive the chassis number of the bus from the officials in the Western Cape," said provincial Arrive Alive spokesperson Tshepo Machaea, according to reports News24.

On December 10, 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, its thirty articles enshrining basic and fundamental rights guaranteeing dignity of the human person and equality for all, regardless of race, color, creed or gender. A pipe dream?
