Attack on federal helicopter prevented in Chechnya

An attack on helicopters of federal forces was prevented in the district centre of Shali, Chechnya.

RIA Novosti learned from the regional operations headquarters monitoring the counter-terrorist operation in the Northern Caucasus on Friday that the criminal police of the Russian Interior Ministry carried out a special operation on the previous day. During the check up of operational data obtained from an earlier detained gunman the policemen discovered on the roof of a building in the city's industrial zone a fire pocket specially equipped for firing at helicopters. A grenade launcher and four ammunitions for it, as well as a submachine gun and two hand grenades were prepared at the site.

The representative of the regional operations headquarters noted that this place was the best suitable for firing at helicopters about to land or picking up height.

A complex of operational measures is being carried out to look for people who were preparing the attack. Investigations have been launched.
