A fire destroyed a theater during a theater performance and killed at least 20 Egyptians late Monday south of Cairo, police said. The cause of the fire was unknown. The fire occurred in Beni Suef, about 96 kilometers (60 miles) south of Cairo, said the police official who declined to be identified as he was unauthorized to speak to the media. At least 45 people were also wounded in the fire, the cause of which was not immediately known. The official said the fire started at about 10:45 p.m. and was still raging at least one hour later, AP reports.
