Another mass grave found in Iraq

A mass grave containing the remains of 56 Shiites is reported to have been found at a house in Tel Afar, in the north of Iraq. Some of the bodies had been decapitated. Others had been burnt.

Radio Nawa, which broadcasts in the Kurdish language, said "this mass grave was found in a dwelling which terrorists used to use, according to the testimonies of the city's inhabitants, to meet up, before the clashes broke out with the Iraqi forces [in September]."

The radio went on to report that "the grave contained the remains of Shiite inhabitants of the city who were thought to have been killed by terrorists before the arrival of Iraqi and American forces."

In September, Tel Afar, which is close to the Iraqi-Syrian border, was the scene of violent clashes between gunmen and the Iraqi forces after local people appealed to the Iraqi government to save them from the insurgents who had turned the city into one of their main refuges, AKI reports.
