A school bus sidewiped a truck and skidded into a ditch on a highway northwest of Toronto, seriously injuring several elementary school children.
Hospital officials said emergency crews had to resuscitate an 8-year-old girl who was reported in critical condition. Five other children suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and at least a dozen other students were hurt less seriously, said Terry O'Donovan, spokeswoman for the William Osler Health Centre.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, Ontario Provincial Police Constable Linda Dean said.
Although O'Donovan said emergency officials told him the bus flipped over on the highway, police said the bus remained upright.
School officials said the children were fourth-graders in their fourth year of school.
