President Kadyrov had not intended to take part in Victory Day celebrations

Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov had not planned to take part in the Victory Day celebrations at Grozny's Dynamo stadium, Rudnik Dudayev, Chechen Security Council Secretary, said in an interview with RIA Novosti. (President Kadyrov was killed when a bomb exploded at the stadium during the May 9 celebrations).

"The president was expected to take the salute at the Severny airport," said Mr Dudayev.

The Chechen government headed by acting president Sergei Abramov, in cooperation with security bodies, is trying to identify those guilty of President Kadyrov's death.

"Investigation was launched right after the president's death. We have found out that the bomb was encased in a concrete platform at the stadium well in advance, the explosion was prepared specifically for someone from the Chechen leadership," said Mr Dudayev.

Mr Dudayev emphasised that the president's death would not aggravate the situation in the republic.

When asked who could stage the terrorist act, Mr Dudayev said it was premature to give names. "However, we are sparing no effort to identify those linked to the explosion," he emphasised.

Mr Dudayev said authorities were drawing up lists of victims to the terrorist attack with the aim of providing aid to them and their families.

Six persons were killed and 53 injured in the blast, according to the Chechen Security Council secretary. However, he said those were preliminary figures. "Relatives might have taken some of those injured away from the stadium right after the explosion," explained Mr Dudayev. Commandant's offices, police and hospitals are specifying the exact number of victims.

"We need 2-3 days to take organisational measures," added Mr Dudayev.

Chechnya's Security Council and State Council are expected to hold a joint meeting on May 11, according to Mr Dudayev.
