Russian experts carry on search for radioactive burial sites in the Sea of Japan

Russian emergencies ministry experts in cooperation with the oceanology institute of the national academy of sciences have started the examination of the case area in the northern part of the Sea of Japan.

The first expedition of this sort took place last year. Experts then worked in three areas of the sea at the depths ranging from 2,900 to 3,500 metres. In two of the areas the equipment sensed a higher concentration of caesium 137 in the bottom sediment. As of today caesium concentration is three times lower than the maximum permissible concentration is therefore not dangerous, according to the emergencies ministry.

The current expedition will last into September 15. The experts have not revealed contamination thus far.
