Kursk Sub Wrecks To Be Viewed By Journalists

The wrecked Kursk nuclear-powered submarine will be shown to journalists, said Vyacheslav Popov, commander of the Russian Northern fleet, at a recent press conference. It was held at the press center of the international Kursk rescue task force. Agreement on letting reporters to inspect the wrecks has been reached, he said. "In a week or two the submarine can be viewed," said he commander. But "the character of damages of the sub will not be shown," he added. "We think it ethically wrong to show these damages. It is like showing cruel death on television screens," said Vyacheslav Popov. The Northern fleet commander also asked reporters not to focus on the timeframe of putting the Kursk in the dock. "There is an opportunity to work quietly, measuring thrice," he stressed. At the recent news conference, presidential aide Sergei Yastrzhembsky, Murmansk region governor Yuri Yevdokimov and Northern fleet commander Vyacheslav Popov thanked journalists for their good work and coordination. "I deeply thank journalists for their being considerate," said Popov.
