Eight factory workers killed in Bangladesh bus crash

At least eight factory workers were killed and some 70 others injured Friday after a packed bus careened into a second bus near Bangladesh's capital, a news report said. At least five workers died instantly, while three others died of their injuries en route to a hospital, the United News of Bangladesh reported.

The accident on a road near Savar industrial town sparked violence, with hundreds of workers coming out of their factories and attacked passing vehicles in apparent anger over the authorities' inability to enforce road safety, it said. About 20 people were injured in the attacks.

The injured were being treated at local hospitals, it said.

Extra police were deployed in the area to get the situation under control, it said.

Road accidents in Bangladesh kill about 4,000 people each year.

Officials could not be reached immediately for comment.
