Boy hospitalized after being scratched by leopard

A 9-year-old boy was taken to a hospital with severe scratches on Tuesday after being clawed by a leopard at a zoo in southern Australia, officials said.

The boy was on a school trip to the zoo in the southern city of Melbourne when he climbed over a barrier and was scratched through a wire fence by the 13-year-old Persian leopard, zoo director John Gibbons said.

Paramedic Tom Dukic said the boy sustained two deep cuts on his arm. Gibbons said the zoo would review the safety of its animal enclosures following the incident, AP reports.
