Afghanistan: kidnapping of Italian woman

Four armed men kidnapped an Italian woman in Afghanistan on Monday, according to reports. The woman was rushed into a car around 9 p.m. local time in Kabul, Gen. Mahboubullah Amiri, a senior official in the &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/world/2001/12/30/24814.html ' target=_blank>Afghan Interior Ministry told the Associated Press.

The woman's identity has not been released.

A UN official who confirmed the abduction would say only that the victim worked for an international agency, tells CBC News.

According to the Boston Globe, the woman worked for CARE International, said Paul Barker, the agency's director in Afghanistan.

Barker said the car had just dropped off another female employee when the abduction happened. He said no demands had been made for her release.

Carlo Batori, an Italian diplomat in &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/war/2001/11/14/20929.html ' target=_blank>Kabul, confirmed the woman was an Italian citizen, but gave no details.
