The localised oil spill, that formed following the "North West" tanker accident in the port of St Petersburg, is approximately 400 square meters. This was disclosed by the Maritime administration for the port of St Petersburg. Two lines of containment booms have contained the spill of diesel fuel in the harbour water. The river basin accident rescue service, and controllers of Baltic tugs and Petersburg oil terminal are leading the work to clean up the oil. Given favourable weather conditions the spill will be cleaned up in the course of the next 24 hours. The North West tanker with a displacement of approximately 1200 tons during refueling in stormy weather conditions took on water and sank on 15th November in a depth of 11 meters at the oil terminal at the Ugolnaya harbour in St Petersburg.
