Hot air balloon hits power line in Iowa

A hot air balloon crashed into a farm field after hitting a power line. 2 people are dead and one injured.

The balloon was descending when it hit the line. The balloon and the basket separated and the basket fell 60 feet (more than 18 meters) to the ground, Sheriff Larry Richtsmeier said.

The crash occurred about 9:15 a.m., he said.

Two passengers died at the scene. The third person was flown by helicopter to a hospital. That person's condition was not immediately known, and the victim's names were not released.

Hampton is located in north-central Iowa.
