Twelve Chechens were detained as a result of the operation, carried out by the Georgian Interior and National Security Ministries, in the Pankisi gorge on Wednesday.
The power ministries are carrying out the operation in three villages of the gorge.
The detained Chechens have no identity papers, said Paat Gomelauri, the head of the Interior Ministry's public relations service.
In addition, weapons, uniform, foreign cars and computer equipment were seized during the operation.
According to Gomelauri, the operation was held without accidents.
The choice of the city of Helsinki is not incidental as the capital of Finland had hosted US-Soviet negotiations on the limitation of nuclear stockpiles in 1969
