Sri Lanka: 13 guerrillas killed in Civil war clashes

(By Margarita Snegireva) In a series of clashes with Tamil Tiger rebels Sri Lankan government troops killed 13 insurgents.

In the northern Vavuniya district, just south of rebel-held area, six militants were killed I separate battles.

In nearby Mannar district, soldiers clashed with a group of insurgents, killing three guerrillas, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media.

Separately on Wednesday, army troops killed four Tamil rebels near the front lines in Muhamalai in northern Jaffna peninsula, he said. One soldier was wounded in the confrontation.
