The Embassy of the Czech Republic in the United States was forced to release an official statement with a request not to confuse the Czechs and the Chechens.
The statement from the Czech Embassy was released after a flurry of messages appeared in the US segments of Twitter and Facebook social networks. In those messages, people accused the Czech Republic of being involved in the bombings during the Boston Marathon on April 15. Many American bloggers confused messages about the terrorists - they took the Czech Republic for Chechnya.
"As more information about the origin of the alleged attackers continues to emerge, I am concerned about the misinterpretation that appeared in social networks and in this regard. The Czech Republic and Chechnya are completely different things. The Czech Republic is a country in Central Europe, and Chechnya is part of the Russian Federation," the Czech ambassador to the United States Peter Gandalovič said in a statement.
On Saturday, even CNN published a special piece of information saying that Chechnya was not the Czech Republic
