Small Plane Crashes on Approach to Teterboro Airports in New Jersey

A small plane attempting to land at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey crashed into an industrial area just past 3 a.m. on Friday and burst into flames, and its two occupants were taken to a hospital with serious burns and broken bones, officials said; no one on the ground was injured.

It was the second accident involving Teterboro Airport in New Jersey in past two weeks — on Aug. 8 a single-engine plane took off from the airport and collided with a sightseeing helicopter over the Hudson River, killing all nine people aboard both aircraft, The New York Times reports.

Little Ferry police officer Adam Warne, who was among the first to respond to the scene, said he was taken aback to find the men alive and talking after the crash.

"They were sitting at the curb at the bus stop. Both of them were alert and conscious and answering questions," Warne said.

Teterboro is the same airport where a plane took off earlier this month before colliding with a sightseeing helicopter over the Hudson River. Nine people were killed aboard the two aircraft, The Associated Press reports.

According to NYDailyNews, pilot and his passenger survived a fiery crash Friday after a small plane hit a tree and then slammed into a parking lot short of Teterboro Airport, officials said.

One of the men in the twin-engine Beechcraft was in critical condition. The other was in serious condition.

Emergency workers found the victims dazed and sitting on the curb at a nearby bus stop after the 3 a.m. crash.
