The federal forces carried out six special operations on the search for weapons and terrorists in Chechnya within the last 24 hours. The operations were held in the Urus-Martan, Kurchaloi and Grozny districts, the regional counter-terrorist staff said. Four caches with weapons and ammunition were discovered and destroyed during the operations.
Local residents rendered active assistance in the discovery of caches, the staff said. For instance, residents of the village of Kalinovskaya (the Naursky district) pointed to the cache with 25 hand grenades, 30 200-gramme TNT blocks and some 3,000 ammunition.
The staff believes that the civil position of local residents in Chechnya's north helped to achieve stabilisation, to discover and arrest several people, who played an important role in the terrorists' hierarchy.
