Briton and his son drown in Spain

A father and his 5-years son were swept away by a sudden wave and drowned, a local town hall official said.

The incident happened when the man, his wife and their two children were taking photographs on rocks close to the coastal town of Tossa de Mar, north of Barcelona.

Spain has been hit by stormy weather since the beginning of the week.

Firefighters in a helicopter spotted the man and the boy as they clung to a buoy but were unable to rescue them, the national news agency Efe said. Maritime rescue workers eventually retrieved the bodies of the two.

Officials did not release the names of the victims.
