Young man admits to raping his stepson to death

An 8-year-old boy died on April 17 in the emergency care department of the Elizovo central hospital in Russia's Kamchatka region.  The boy arrived at the hospital several hours earlier: he had multiple bruises and injuries of soft tissue.

A medical examination of the child revealed that he had become a victim of sexual assault. Doctors were fighting for his life for several hours, but to no avail.

The next day, the police arrested the child's stepfather, who completely denied his guilt. According to him, the boy received those injuries at sports classes. The boy's mother also insisted on the innocence of her 25-year-old man.

Within the next following days, investigators collected irrefutable evidence, and the man had to confess to abusing the boy. A criminal case was filed against him  under article "Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim." The article stipulates a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
