6 notorious militants detained in Chechnya

Six notorious militants have been detained in Chechnya's Achkhoi-Martan district, Colonel Ilya Shabalkin, official spokesman for the Regional Operational Headquarters for the Counter-terrorist Operation in the North Caucasus, told RIA Novosti.

The gangsters were detained in an operation criminal police carried out checking locals' reports, said the colonel.

One of the detainees is of Slavic extraction, while the others are Caucasus residents, he added. "The militants proved to have been engaged in attacks on Novy Sharoi settlement, murders and other grave crimes against Chechnya's police force," said Colonel Shabalkin.

Investigators are now looking into their involvement in other crimes, he concluded.
