Suspected sniper detained in Ingushetia

A militant suspected of having murdered federal troops' servicemen has been detained in Ingushetia's (republic neighboring on Chechnya in the Northern Caucasus) Sunzhensky district, RIA Novosti was told in the republic's Interior Ministry on Saturday.

The detention took place Friday night in the town of Karabulakh. During a search of a BMW passenger, a loaded Makarov handgun without identification numbers was found on him, an SVD sniper rifle with rounds was discovered in the car, as well as over 250 cartridges of different caliber, three camouflage uniform outfits and a sleeping bag.

The Interior Ministry believes he is a mercenary sniper who specialized in murders of federal troops' servicemen.

Besides, a person suspected of kidnapping, who was on a federal wanted list, was detained yesterday in the same district of the republic. The bandit offered armed resistance, but was wounded by return fire and is in hospital now.

A Kalashnikov submachine gun with a silencer, and rounds for it were confiscated on the site.
