An organised criminal gang has been destroyed in the Chechen capital of Grozny. According to the regional operative HQ, the gang of four people committed murders and bandit attacks on local residents, was involved in racketeering and abducting civilians for ransom.
Preliminary investigation showed that the bandits had also committed subversive and terrorist acts aimed at destroying federal military equipment and servicemen.
All the detainees come from Grozny.
Meanwhile, evidence has been found of a local inhabitant's involvement in the terrorist act in the Shali district. According to Russia's interior ministry, policemen managed to prove the terrorist Rakhimov's, 24, relevance to the January 6, 2002 explosion on the outskirts of the Chiri-Yurt settlement.
The terrorist act committed against a composite police unit left one police officer dead and five wounded. Investigators have established that Rakhimov was not the only one to plant the makeshift explosive device on the road - he had an accomplice who is now on the wanted list.
