Nineteen sailors from the sunken South Korean Asian Noble ship have been rescued at the shore of the Maritime Territory (the Russian region on the western coast of the Sea of Japan). The press service of the Maritime Steamship Line reported about it on Wednesday (the time difference with Moscow is 7 hours).
The foreign ship sunk the day before some 50 miles from the shore of the Maritime Territory.
There were 20 members of the crew (8 Koreans and 12 people from the Philippines) on board the Asian Noble which followed from the Russian port of Vostochny and carried coal. The SOS signal from the South Korean ship was received by the tanker Partizansk of the Maritime Steamship Line.
In several hours after sending the SOS signal the ship overturned and sunk.
The crew of the Partizansk removed 18 foreign sailors from a lifeboat and took them on board. One more sailor, chief mate, was found on one of the four rafts scattered around the sunken ship. However, the search for the boatswain of the South Korean ship were not successful.
The tanker with the saved sailors is heading now for the Russian port of Nakhodka.
