A series of murders among local residents was reported from the Chechen capital Grozny. On Tuesday, unknown persons shot dead two people, namely 63-year-old Anatoly Kukhtin and a friend of his, whom the police have not been able to identify immediately, said a source in the Chechen Interior Office. Both men had been killed with shots to the head. Apparently, the shots had been fired point-blank.
A few hours later, a similar murder was reported from Gikalo Village, Grozny district, where 33-year-old local woman Raisa Bachayeva had been shot in an open-air market. She, too, had been shot through the head. Law enforcers have launched an investigation to find out the motives behind the murders.
