Over 1,000 economic crime disclosed in Chechnya in 2003

1,095 economic crimes have been disclosed in Chechnya in the first nine months of 2003, head of the Russian Interior Ministry's Economic and Tax Crime Federal Service Sergei Verevkin-Rakhalsky told RIA Novosti on Friday.

"Servicemen of the Main Economic Crime Department together with other law-enforcement structures disclosed 368 crimes in the fuel and energy industry and in the agriculture of the Chechen republic, 372 crimes in the credit-financial and budget systems," he said. Also, they have discovered 19 bribing cases, he added.

Law-enforcement bodies pay special attention to preventing criminal abuse of "budget funds allocated for restoration works in Chechnya," Verevkin-Rakhalsky pointed out. "Crimes in this sphere are committed by overestimating volumes of restoration works and prices for supplied goods and materials by using one-day companies," he explained.

The deputy minister took part in the operative session of the interior bodies of the Ural federal district held in Yekaterinburg and devoted to the results of work in the nine months of 2003.
