Effective Law-enforcement Bodies Should Be Created In Chechnya, Russian President Believes

Vladimir Putin has declared it is essential to create effective law-enforcement bodies in Chechnya. While speaking on Tuesday at an enlarged interior ministry board, the Russian President pointed out that one of the main directions of the activity of law-enforcement bodies is combating terrorism and extremism. He also stressed that the Interior Ministry workers in the southern federal district are doing "very difficult and extremely important work" which inflicted a tangible blow at the terrorist infrastructure. Putin pointed out that along with the liquidation of bandit groups and channels of their financing it is also very important to intensify work for creating effective law-enforcement bodies in the Chechen republic. The President expressed concern that over the last 18 months only five persons involved in committing acts of terror were justly punished, but hundreds of acts of terror have been perpetrated. In this connection, Putin paid attention to the lower quality of work of the investigation apparatus and not only on cases of terrorism. The President believes that proposals on setting up an emergency search bureau for combating terrorism are timely. He also stressed that this body will become effective only when it works not only for investigation but also for thwarting acts of terror.
