A fire in a Moscow neuropsychiatric clinic, according to preliminary data, has claimed the lives of 38 people, officials said.
The fire in a one-story hospital building in the town of Ramensky, the Moscow region, occurred on Friday night at about 2:00 a.m. The nearest fire station is located 30 kilometers from the hospital. The building had burned completely by the time firefighters arrived.
According to preliminary reports, the fire killed 38 people, two of them were medical workers. At the time of the fire, there were 41 people staying in the hospital building. Twelve bodies have been recovered so far. Rescuers continue their work.
The fire has left only three survivors.
Most likely, officials said, the fire broke out due to the careless handling of fire; a short circuit in the wiring is also possible.
