Gunmen attacked a van carrying law enforcement officials in the Russian region of Chechnya, killing one and wounding three others.
A spokesman with the Chechen interior ministry press center said the four were on patrol in the southeastern Chechen town of Dargo Tuesday evening when attackers opened fire. Three were hospitalized with various wounds, while the driver was killed. The gunmen escaped, the spokesman was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
Nearly six years after Russian troops re-entered the Caucasus province to root out the separatist insurgency, Chechnya remains wracked by persistent violence.
Earlier this month attackers set off a bomb near a police minibus in northern Chechnya, killing 14 people and wounding more than 20.
