Over 30 militants detained in 2003 when attempting to cross Russian-Georgian border

More than 30 militants were detained in 2003 when attempting to cross the Russian-Georgian border, a spokesperson for the Russian Federal Security Service's Border Guard Department in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.

According to the official, in 2003 the border guards spotted as many as 80 militants' bases and caches containing about 68,000 units of ammunition, 30 kilos of explosives and numerous fire arms.

The spokesperson said that patrolling squad of the Argun unit covering the Chechen section of the Russian-Georgian border found on Friday an F1 grenade set for action. Sappers who were summoned to the site defused it.

"But for our servicemen's high vigilance and attention, there could have been serious casualties," the spokesperson said.
