Recent military successes of the militia of the People's Republic of Donetsk forced Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko cancel his visit to Turkey and convene an urgent meeting of the Council of National Security and Defence.

"I have decided to cancel the work visit to the Republic of Turkey in connection with the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Donetsk region, particularly in the settlements of Amvrosievka and Starobeshevo," the president said. Poroshenko also said that Russian troops invaded Ukraine.

The message also says that Ukraine considers it necessary to urgently convene the meeting of the UN Security Council.

Earlier, Prime Minister and chief of the armed forces of the unrecognized People's Republic of Donetsk, Alexander Zakharchenko, announced major counteroffensive of the militia troops. According to him, militia forces surrounded the 8th Army Corps, 28th, 30th, 93th mechanized brigades, the 95th aeromobile brigade, as well as battalions of territorial defense "Aidar," "Donbass," "Shahtersk" and battalions of the National Guard, RIA Novosti reports.
