Austrian police said Friday they were investigating the fatal shooting of a diamond dealer.
The victim, identified as a 46-year-old man from the southern province of Styria, was found dead in his apartment in a prestigious Vienna neighborhood Thursday evening, police said.
He had been shot repeatedly in the upper body and was found in a room that served as his office. A safe located in the room was open and empty.
Thomas Stecher of Vienna's criminal police department said it was still unclear if the safe had been forced open and whether the man had been the victim of an armed robbery. There were no signs of a forced entry at the front door, he said.
