Afghanistan: Fighting Moves Close To Tajik Frontier

Northern Alliance-Taliban fighting has come close to the Tajik frontier, reported Russian borderguard contingent PR. An active skirmish was underway four kilometres off the frontier around 4:00 p.m., local time, yesterday, along the stretch guarded by the Pyanj unit. Ten blasts - presumably, air bomb - came at about the same time ten kilometres off the Zorkul checkpoint of the Ishkashim unit. The frontier situation remains fairly calm, despite all, the borderguard press service said to RIA Novosti.
