A taxi carrying wedding guests crashed into an oncoming truck Friday in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state, killing 11 people.
The dead included two children, police spokesman Surendra Srivastava said, after the collision in Amethi town, 140 kilometers (80 miles) southeast of Lucknow, the state capital, according to the AP.
Eight people died instantly and three others succumbed to their injuries later at a hospital, he said.
The driver of the truck fled and police were looking for him, Srivastava said.
Hundreds of people are killed every year in road accidents in India from reckless driving, bad roads and aging vehicles.
