A huge, 188-kilo heroine bunch was confiscated in Dushanbe last Saturday, on June 7, Tajikistan's Deputy Interior Minister Makhmadsaid Djurakulov reported Monday at a briefing.
"Four drug traffickers were detained in a Dushanbe district as 188 kilos of heroine and 2.5 kilos of opium were discovered in their KAMAZ cache," said Djurakulov. Referring to the continued investigation, the deputy minister refused to reveal information on the point of the truck's destination and the detainees' provisional links with drug dealers in other countries.
Since the beginning of the year, Tajik law enforcers in association with their Russian counterparts have confiscated about 4,500 kilos of narcotics, including over 3,500 kilos of heroine, that is 3.5 times more than in the same period last year. It is Russian frontier guards who have spotted more than half of the said drugs.
Tajiksitan ranks fourth in the world and first in the CIS as to the amount of the annual narcotics confiscate.
